The following is the Traffic Bulldog response to the news of Catherine Witherspoon and Dr Sawyer's exit from the Air Resources Board (CARB).
Ah, the AB32 legislation, is it starting to unravel?
Politicians will publicly say that we need to take every action possible to fix global warming. EXCEPT Carpool! We could create a few incentives for carpooling and it would solve traffic and get half of the greenhouse gases under control.
In my estimation, this work (AB 32) was handed to the ARB so that they could shield the politicians from having to dirty their shoes in it.
Like Catherine said at a recent meeting, it sure would be nice if the legislators that are behind the AB32 effort would step up and sponsor some bills to start enacting change.
However, as this is the Prop 13 state (never mind the record home values and turn over), our politicians believe that we need the sales tax from cars and gasoline to help run the state.
Not really. We just need politicians that are willing to do more than talk.
One thing I have seen in this post - partisan era. Arnie sure like to look like there is broad agreement when the cameras are rolling, but behind the closed doors, others are running the show.
So, it is time to start looking past the set of politicians we now have. Because Arnie is right, to get the air quality to move along, it will take different leadership.
And that is true for all of the other problems stemming from our politicians need for automobile sales tax
- 44 years of oil left folks
- traffic congestion
- high gas prices
- high prices for everything else
- global warming
- air pollution
- lying do-nothing incumbent politicians
