Full Story

Not all Senior drivers are a problem. But enough of them are that something should be done right? Not according to the State of California.

I would think everyone remembers the tragedy in Santa Monica where an elderly person drove through the farmers market and killed 10 people.

Was there public outcry? Not much. Why? Because stories that will hurt car sales are often downplayed in the media. Keep in mind who pays for commercials. Meanwhile, the State of California has done the analysis that says your life being ended from a Senior driver is much less important that the sales tax revenue they get from that new car a senior may purchase or lease every 4 years, out of habit.

The State has decided that since many seniors actually drive less, as they no longer commute to work, they are a golden nugget of taxes and fees in their golden years.

That is why the person that committed manslaughter Santa Monica was allowed to go free. Because, well.... he didn't know what he was doing. And we sure don't want to scare seniors out of their cars.

It almost makes me think of the immunity deal that Blackwater has for killing innocents in Iraq.

By even coming up with some sort of test to validate if a person is OK to drive, we will be failing some individuals. And that is a threat to government taxes. And that is a threat to government employees salaries, pensions and the employment of their friends and family.

Oh wait, that is again illegal under the Fair Political Practices Act.

Who is the government looking after when they turn the other way to ignore the carnage that comes from unchecked elderly drivers?

It doesn't seem they are doing it for the children now are they?

If we carpooled more often, seniors would have options to get around.
